Good Oral Hygiene Can Give Us Beautiful Smiles

Beautiful smile is within our reach if we know how to properly take care of our mouth – gums, teeth, tongue and all.  Healthy gums are ought to be pink and supple.  A strong tooth is whitish in hue and does not show signs of mineral deposit at the tooth base or by the gum line.  When our mouth is clean, we feel and smell fresh.  And in order to keep this and prevent red gums from affecting us, we need to do our part on proper oral hygiene.

Red gums are brought about by several factors.  There are poorly fitted dental works that can make ones gums red and swollen.  Some women tend to have red gums during pregnancy, menstruation, and menopause due to hormonal at metabolic changes in the body.  There are also medical conditions that can result to reddening of the gums among which is scurvy.  This medical condition indicates the lack of ascorbic acid, or commonly known as vitamin C, in our body.  And if one is malnourished, there is high probability of that their gums won’t be healthy at all.

There could be several other reasons for red gums and hygiene is on top of the list.  Poor oral hygiene, absence or the lack of it will definitely lead you to the road of gum infections.  More often than not, when we are likely to go lazy on brushing, flossing and rinsing after meals or say two times a day, the very least, chances are bacteria would accumulate in our mouth and gums will get sensitive to irritants and infections.

Therefore it is essential to get into an oral regimen that will keep us away from gum infections and diseases.  For optimal dental health, brush your teeth methodically every after meal, if possible and especially before retiring for the night.  Ensure that you employ a circular motion when brushing and hit your gum line when doing so.  Flossing after meals are advisable however may be impossible at times so make sure you do it every night.   Choose the products that you will be using, as well.  Hard toothbrush bristles may irritate your gums.  Mouthwashes containing alcohol is not an effective product.  Also use toothpaste that contains fluoride as this makes the teeth resistant to acids that may cause plaque buildup.

In general, oral hygiene is necessary to fight red gums and gum diseases.  At an economical cost you’d be able to prevent impairment of gums because you knew how to take care of your oral health.
